Peace and Quiet.

30 April 2024

Everyone was done with lunch, and it was only 11. Shay had left when Kathy, Nadine and Evan were at the grocery store for 40 minutes. They were still at the kitchen table, talking after washing their dishes and placed them away. “Why does today feel much longer than usual?” Nadine asked, feeling as though there was a change in their usual morning routines. “I purposely started the day earlier.” Jason said, while washing the dishes and pans. He wiped all the plates, wiping his hands aswell before turning towards the rest of the group. “I wanted you guys to do your chores earlier so I wouldn’t have to be worried about leaving the house for my date with Cinta in a mess. But I forgot some of you would have plans, like Shay, Nad and Evan.”

Jason had cleaned the kitchen so he went back to his room to get ready for his date with Cinta at 12. “I’ll be gone until 5 before dinner. Be sure to be back at around 6, is that okay with everyone?” Everyone said yes to Jason and pushed in their chairs, either going to the couch or back to their rooms. Nadine grabbed her car keys and fixed her hair and clothes, saying goodbye to everyone. She grabbed a cardigan aswell before walking out the door. Soon as time kept passing, Cinta and Jason went out for their date, saying their goodbyes to Evan and Kathy. After a couple of hours, Evan went out with some friends to the nearby movie theater, leaving Kathy alone at home. It was 2 o'clock, leaving Kathy 3 hours before Jason and Cinta come home.

She decided to be a bit productive and went upstairs to the loft with a small library and a little shared space where the group would study. She had taken her laptop and decided to work on some of the law assignments her professor assigned. But it felt odd for her to be left entirely alone. Usually another person would be accompanying her. She soon finished the assignments, still having 2 hours of alone time. She walked around the apartment, but couldn’t ignore the feeling from the peace and quietness of the whole place. She decided to do some reading and watched some K-drama to ignore the feeling, and even ate some leftovers Jason had left her. Soon enough, it was already 4 o'clock.

She decided to change into a nice hoodie since it was quite cold outside, walking to the nearby parks and bookshops. It’s been 3 years since Kathy last felt what its like to be alone. The sky was gray, as if it was going to rain soon. “It feels odd without them here.” she thought to herself, still walking past the blooming trees around the streets. It was still early spring, with only a few small blooms. After a few minutes of wandering, she saw it was already 4.50, causing her to walk back home to wait for Cinta and Jason.
