Dinner’s Ready!

Evan puts down his plate and says goodbye to everyone. He grabs his keys, walks out the door, and goes to the movie theatre. At the lobby, he meets up with his friends and buys tickets to today's chart-breaking movie: Barbie 2. They walk over to concessions and pick up a couple orders of popcorn and candy. "Concessions are so expensive here", Evan said. "It isn't, you're just broke.", Jovan responded.
They went into the studio right at the time they were showing the ads and looked for their seats. As they looked around, Evan caught a glimpse of someone very familiar to him. It's Celyn - the very girl whose heart he broke six months ago. He walks to his seat, and finds that it's directly beside Celyn. He wanted a seat that wasn't next to her, but Tristan and Jovan already took it after he realises. He sighs and slowly sits down, trying to avoid any contact with her, but he knew at that moment that both of them had realised each other's presence, and only wanted to stay silent about it. He stays in his seat trying to focus on the movie, but he can't ignore the lingering guilt he felt from their messy breakup. Throughout the movie, he took a few glances and noticed that she was perfectly fine and was focused on the movie. He tried to do the same, but it didn't work - he was fidgeting with his fingers the whole time.
When the movie ended, he wanted to immediately leave, but Jovan and Tristan were being slow and left a bunch of trash in their seats. "Oh yeah, let's pick up our sh*t.", Jovan said. Evan was desperately trying to get out, but knew that Celyn was still in her seat talking to her friends. Evan was so focused on getting out of the studio, he completely forgot that he placed his drink on the floor. As Celyn got up from her seat and tried to walk out of the row, she tripped on the drink and fell towards Evan. Evan's quick reflexes saw that she was about to fall, and without thinking, immediately caught her in his arms. Everyone went silent, you could hear a needle drop; it felt like time had stopped.
They looked at each other. "T-Thanks?", Celyn said. Evan could barely let out a word, still keeping eye contact with her. He quickly snaps back to reality, realising what he'd done. He sprints out of the studio and leaves his friends behind. He runs to the lavatory and looks at himself in the mirror, trying to collect himself and think about what happened. "Sh*t, what just happened?", he thought to himself. He messes up his hair in the toilet while stressing out about what he just felt. "Do I still like her?", he asks himself. His friends find him and catch up with him in the lavatory. "Are you okay?", Jovan asked.
Evan: "I'm fine."
Jovan: "Uhh, you sure? Seeing as you just caught your ex like that."
Tristan: "Yeah, you could tell us anything you know that?"
Evan: "Yeah, I'm fine. Can we please get out of here?"
The trio walk out of the men's lavatory, back to the lobby. Evan sees that Celyn is walking out of the movie theatre with her friends. "...I wonder if she still likes me?", he thought to himself. He quickly clears that thought. "Hey guys, I think I'll take my leave now.", Evan said to the group; because of what had happened, they allow him to leave without any protests. A short while after he walks out of the theatre, he runs into Jason and Cinta. "You going home now?", Jason asked. "Yep, hangout ended early.", Evan responded.
Evan didn't feel taking the bus, and just decided to walk the whole way home. During his walk home, he can't help but think about Celyn. Numerous thoughts about her and their previous relationship kept coming into his head. "Maybe I should text her?", he thought to himself. He continues walking home with his hood up and hands in his hoodie, being closed off to everyone around him. He catches yet another glimpse of Celyn, driving off with her friends. "What am I f*cking doing at this point?". He continues walking home with thoughts of her in his head.
He unlocks the door and goes to his room, and slams himself to his bed - trying to get his thoughts in order. A little while later, he receives a text.

"Oh, it's Celyn", he thought to himself. Evan didn't know how to respond, and kept staring at the text - trying to think of an appropriate response.

He tried to end the conversation there, but Celyn continued.

Evan was confused - "Why is she asking now?", he thought to himself. After months of no contact, and a rough patch that concluded the relationship - why did she start caring again?

Evan didn't know where this conversation is going, until...

"....Hold up.", he said to himself.

Was this fate between the both of them?

...
Evan stares at the message for a while. He puts down his phone.
"What just happened?"
